April 22: World Earth Day

April 15, 2016

April 22nd is World Earth Day and hundreds of million people will be celebrating this event, in one way or another, in about 184 countries.

The Origin of Earth Day

The genesis of Earth Day is credited to the U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson, from Wisconsin, who instigated the first such event, an “environmental teach-in”, on April 22, 1970. But the first Earth Day was much more than a day of protest: it was the beginning of the environmental movement, having a major impact on U.S. politics. In fact, as a direct result, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) was created in December 1970 and the Clean Water Act was adopted in 1972.

Tomorrow, numerous activities are organized everywhere to address local environmental issues. SOSCuisine’s contribution to the environmental challenge is to reduce food waste by smart meal planning.

Food Waste

This waste represents about $ 750 billion per year and the global economy does not include the loss of fish and seafood. In the industrialized world, the majority of food waste comes from consumers who buy too much food and throw that they do not eat. Read more …
